Labiaplasty

Enhancing the appearance and improving the health of feminine anatomy requires extensive skill, an artistic eye, and experience. At our leading plastic surgery practice, Dr. Robert Schlenker offers state-of-the-art care customized to suit the unique needs and cosmetic goals of each woman. Labiaplasty from our extensively trained plastic surgeon can address a wide range of concerns that may cause physical or psychological discomfort, from confidence issues to pain during sexual activity. This procedure is designed to contour the labia for a smoother, sleeker, and more refined look.

What are some of the issues labiaplasty can correct?

Labia can come in many shapes and sizes and still be “normal”; however, if the form of your vaginal lips causes you to feel self-conscious in and/or out of clothes, or if this tissue causes physical discomfort when participating in recreational activities or sexual relations, you may benefit from labiaplasty. This procedure is designed to trim excess skin that may be noticeable in clothing or cause friction during certain movements. By removing the excess skin, patients can also achieve smoother and more symmetrical feminine anatomy. Enlarged labia may also cause chafing or make normal hygiene more difficult. Regardless of your reasons, our compassionate and skilled plastic surgeon can help you determine if labiaplasty should be part of your treatment plan.

How is the labiaplasty procedure performed?

Several techniques can be used to reduce excess skin, depending on your individual anatomic needs. The most common approach is the “central wedge,” which minimizes the visibility of the scar and can enhance post-operative symmetry. Some patients, however, may be better served by an edge trim or double wedge resection, which can also reduce the size of the clitoral hood. The latter can provide not only an improved appearance but may enhance sensual sensation for some women. Dr. Schlenker will discuss the options and work with you to identify the right one for you.

When can I have sex after labiaplasty surgery?

It’s important that you avoid sexual activities involving the groin for at least four to six weeks, or as long as Dr. Schlenker advises. Additionally, you should not insert tampons or other objects in the vaginal canal for the same time period. Patience is necessary for the best results. We recommend you wear loose-fitting clothing until fully healed to help your body recover more quickly.
